NSPCC wins award at Tatton flower show
The NSPCC was represented for the first time at the annual RHS Tatton Flower Show at Tatton Park which was held from 21-25 July. The 'Hear Our Cry garden' was created in support of the the Child's Voice Appeal. The designer received a Silver award for their charity show garden.
Designed by Bolton based award-winning designer Andrew Walker, of Walker Landscape Design, the garden represented a child's journey as they face a problem alone, but then pluck up the courage to call ChildLine, a service provided by the NSPCC.
The circular design included a wooden sculpture of a child's figure, followed by dark tones and muted foliage plants highlighting a lonely, sad and sombre place, where a child struggles with a problem alone. As the journey continues, a sweeping grass pathway leads to an array of brighter colours and flowers, symbolising the child being helped with a problem. Finally, a happy place is reached at the circle with bright bold colours incorporated into the ChildLine logo.
The garden was finished off with a collection of butterflies, especially handmade by local children's nursery, Kids Allowed in Knutsford, who had chosen the NSPCC as their 2010 charity of the year.
