Heroes of Fundraising: Luca Esposito

Luca Esposito is a man on a mission. Literally. On 31 March Luca will set out to walk and ski across the Arctic to the very top of the world - geographic North Pole.

To get there Luca will need to drag his supplies over 60 nautical miles of moving ice at temperatures as low as -30°C. No mean feat. To prepare, Luca, 35, has been in intense training, doing weights three times a week and dragging a large tyre around the horse track in Hyde Park.

All of the money Luca raises will be going to the NSPCC. Asked why the charity meant so much to him, Luca said, "The NSPCC and ChildLine has helped more than 750 000 young people to speak out about the abuse they have suffered. I am a firm believer that in order to build a stronger, healthier and wiser society we need to support and help the future generations from the beginning of their life journey. That is why cruelty to children must stop."

Despite the fact that Luca has not attempted any kind of cold weather challenge before, he remains undaunted: "The hostile and sterile environment of the Arctic has always inspired me. I want to push and test myself against very uncomfortable dimensions. I will gather strength from the power of the forces I will be facing."

Please support Luca by sponsoring him on his Just Giving page. He is not just sacrificing his time in training and undertaking this massive challenge; Luca is also putting up a lot of money to pay for the challenge himself. It is these inspirational kinds of people that enable the NSPCC and ChildLine to support children and young people who need our help.
