Bonita Trust donates £166,000 to the NSPCC
The Bonita Trust, a long term supporter of ChildLine and the NSPCC, has recently become a lead partner of the ChildLine Schools Service. The trust has donated £166,000 to fully fund a database which will be used by staff and volunteers delivering the groundbreaking service.
The ChildLine Schools Service will focus on primary school children, aged 5-11 years old, visiting them in their schools, making sure they understand how to recognise and protect themselves from abuse, and know where to go for help when they need it. By reaching children younger, we can prevent abuse starting and intervene earlier to minimise its devastating long term impact.
The NSPCC aims to visit every primary school in the UK at least once every two years, which means 11,000 schools per year, to educate young people about how they can protect themselves from abuse.
The database is vital to the success of the ChildLine Schools Service. It will enable staff and volunteers to access and update one single, easy to use system, ensuring they are able to spend as much time as possible working directly with children, ultimately making the greatest possible impact on child abuse in the UK.
Ruth Parasol, the principal benefactor and founding member of Bonita Trust's International Advisory Board noted:
"I believe that listening to every young child schooling in the UK could efficiently prevent early stages of child abuse. It is necessary to ensure that younger children recognise abuse and know where to seek help and support when it happens. As a mother of three young children I cannot imagine a greater cause than child protection."
