Supporting children with ChildLine

ChildLine is the UK’s free, confidential helpline dedicated to children and young people. Whenever and wherever children need us, ChildLine will be there for them.

Here for every child

ChildLine  is a service that can help every child in the UK.

At ChildLine bases around the UK, trained volunteers are on hand to provide advice and support 24 hours a day. And children can get in touch in any of the following ways – whichever makes them feel most comfortable and in control:

  • by phone
  • online.

The ChildLine site  also features advice, creative tools, videos and games to help children express how they feel and give them the confidence to speak out. Information and support is also available by text on range of issues.

Involving children in our wider activities

Through ChildLine we look at children’s needs from a child’s perspective, putting them at the heart of what we do.

The things children tell ChildLine – whether directly to a counsellor or on social networks like Habbo – give us valuable insights into what they need and want from our services. Our 'How u feelin?' pages encourage children to engage with us and tell us how they are feeling. Together, these create a powerful picture about how they feel about their world, which we can use to inform our campaigns and other activities to end child cruelty in the UK.

NSPCC schools service

Our developing schools service will help us reach every community in the UK.

The service focuses on primary school children aged 5 to eleven. It aims to teach them:

  • what abuse and bullying are
  • how to protect themselves
  • where to get help if they need it.
