Answering more cries for help

Why is ChildLine so vital?

In 2008 and 2009 ChildLine counselled almost 700,000 calls from children about all kinds of issues, from relationship problems, to exam stress, to self-esteem issues, to abuse.

In the last year ChildLine has received more calls from children about sexual abuse than ever before, well over 13,000, and of those it's really frightening to know that nearly 500 of those children were under seven.

How does ChildLine help?

Since it was launched in 1986, ChildLine has helped save children's lives, responded to children in danger on the streets, and given hope to thousands of children who believed no ones else cared for them.

Every hour of every day ChildLine is there for children and young people, whatever their worry.  Our volunteer counsellors are constantly on hand, to provide advice, help and support.

What is the future for ChildLine?

We are in the process of a massive fundraising appeal to recruit more counsellors, to enable us to maximise the number of calls we can answer and we're investigating new ways for children to reach us.

We have recently launched ChildLine online.  This enables us to be there for the children who may never have called because they would not feel comfortable with speaking on the phone directly, whilst recognising the fact that young people are using the internet more and more as their main method of communication.
