Lee Mitchell

Assistant director – Services for Children and Young People

Lee MitchellWhat do you do?
I manage a range of diverse NSPCC services over a large geographical area, influence the wider professional network and work closely with my colleagues to develop strategic frameworks within the NSPCC - all with the driving principle of ending child cruelty.

Being involved at all levels - locally, regionally and nationally - I find it a very interesting and diverse place to work.

Why did you join the NSPCC?
I came from the local authority and the private sector. I joined May 2003, as I wanted to be involved in the the safeguarding of children from a National perspective during a significant time of change (after the Victoria Climbie Inquiry). In addition, I wanted to join a well respected charity with a clear vision and purpose.

What benefits are there?
It's a good working environment, and a values-driven organisation. There are diverse opportunities to expand your managment experience and move out of your management "comfort zone" as well, allowing you to face new and exciting challenges.

What do you find rewarding?
Working with the people here. I also enjoy the ability to influence at a local and national level to really make a difference to children's lives, and to be involved in the strategic development and direction of the organisation.

What values are important for working with the NSPCC?
Commitment; openess to challenge and change; believing you can make a difference; and believing that safeguarding children is everyone's responsibilty.
