The NSPCC has submitted evidence to the current Home Affairs Inquiry into Domestic Violence calling for more resources for domestic violence perpetrator programmes.
Most perpetrators of domestic violence never come into contact, or only infrequently, with the police, let alone the courts and probation service. Therefore, very few have the opportunity to take part in a probation service programme to address their violent behaviour.
The NSPCC is one of the very few organisations that works with perpetrators of domestic violence who have not been convicted of a criminal offence but have recognised they have a problem and would like to change their behaviour before it becomes entrenched. The NSPCC has long recognised that children are often the forgotten victims of domestic violence and addresses domestic violence from a child protection angle.
