Outreach
We run an outreach programme to raise awareness of the ChildLine service throughout Scotland via talks to schools and youth organisations and to adult supporters, such as rotary clubs and community groups. If your organisation would be interested in hearing more about how ChildLine works or how you can support us, please contact the Training and Outreach Workers on 0844 892 2010 or email Richard.Caswell@children1st.org.uk

ChildLine in Scotland does not charge for outreach visits, although we do ask organisations to cover our volunteers travel expenses.

Training
Based on our experience of working directly with children and young people, ChildLine offers a training and consultancy service to schools, colleges and other organisations.

Peer Support
Peer support empowers children and young people to provide a listening and support service to other pupils within a school. Peer support supports other strategies and programmes that address pupils’ emotional well being. It can improve pupils’ self-confidence and reduce bullying and other discipline problems within a school.

ChildLine in Scotland offers peer support training programmes in both primary and secondary schools. In primary schools we offer programmes, such as classroom pals, playground pals, buddies and mediation skills. In secondary schools we can train pupils to listen, befriend and support other pupils and to develop their mentoring or conflict resolution skills.

We can also provide training for teachers or other adults who wish to set up a peer support scheme or to provide their own training for pupils.

Tailored Training
ChildLine in Scotland has an extensive knowledge and awareness of telephone counselling skills, confidentiality policies, assessment of risk and working with volunteers. We can provide tailored training to organisations, such as schools, education and social work departments to develop expertise in these areas of work.

We can also provide training about specific issues that affect children and young people in Scotland, such as bullying or sexual abuse. Audiences we have provided training for include: befrienders, nursing students, children’s panel members, residential workers and the police.

There are costs for training courses. We do not make a profit from these courses. Our fees help maintain the ChildLine service and ensure that we can reach even more children and young people across Scotland in need of someone to talk to.

For more information about training please contact our Training and Outreach Workers on 0844 892 2010 email  Richard.caswell@children1st.org.uk
