Comedienne Catherine Tate proved that maths doesn’t have to equal boring by supporting the NSPCC’s Number Day on 4 December 2006. Catherine asked children and schools to sign up at www.nspcc.org.uk/numberday and join thousands of kids at schools across England, Wales and Northern Ireland to find out how their maths skills could add up to over £250,000 for abused and vulnerable children.

NSPCC supporter Catherine Tate said: “You don’t have to be a budding number cruncher to take part in the NSPCC Number Day. What is important is having fun and raising much-needed cash for charity. Sadly, not all children come from a loving, caring family, but by taking part in this number counting bonanza you will be helping to create a brighter future for the kids who need it most. Get your teacher to sign your class up and have a really great day.”
NSPCC Number Day 2006 saw children and young people having fun celebrating sums while being sponsored by family and friends. All the maths-based games and activities were devised by professionals in the mathematics field so children had every opportunity to get top marks!
It was the fourth time that the NSPCC has held the bi-annual event. Number Day 2004 saw over 1,000 schools taking part, with pupils raising £230,000 to help vulnerable youngsters in need of care and protection.
