Peter Andre becomes an ambassador for the NSPCC

Peter Andre NSPCC ambassadorPop star and celebrity dad Peter Andre has become an ambassador for the NSPCC in June 2006.

Speaking about his new role, Peter said, "I am thrilled about becoming an NSPCC ambassador. As a father the NSPCC is a charity that I care about deeply. All children should have the same opportunities in life that I want for my kids; including a loving childhood and a future to look forward to."

"Sadly though, far too many children in the UK have their young lives torn apart by abuse and cruelty. The NSPCC carries out vital work to protect these children and keep them safe and I am glad to be a small part of this as an NSPCC ambassador. We all need to do our bit to end cruelty to children and can't afford to turn away from youngsters who desperately need our help."

This announcement follows Peter's induction into the NSPCC Hall of Fame in November 2005. The Hall of Fame honours the charity's celebrity supporters who have made an outstanding contribution to the NSPCC FULL STOP campaign to end cruelty to children.

Motivated by his own experiences of being bullied as a child and the book 'A Child Called It', Peter nominated the NSPCC as his benefiting charity when he took part in ITV's third series of 'I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here'. Peter finished third, donating his substantial winnings of £215,000 to the NSPCC.

His support of the NSPCC didn't end in the jungle; as a result of this success his 1996 single 'Mysterious Girl' was re-released with part of the royalties being donated to the NSPCC.

Peter joins pop star Kylie Minogue, sporting heroes Jonny Wilkinson and Alan Shearer and Oscar winner Catherine Zeta Jones as an NSPCC ambassador.
