The NSPCC has been lucky to benefit from some of the UK’s biggest testimonial events at the kind direction of some of the country’s biggest rugby stars. They include:
Rugby legend and sporting hero Martin Johnson donated a proportion from activities marking his testimonial year in 2004. Johnson closed one of the most glittering careers in British sporting history with a range of events including testimonial dinners and a match at Twickenham involving the great and the good of international rugby including Jonah Lomu.
As a former Captain of the British Lions and England rugby teams, Rugby World Cup winner and inspiration on and off the pitch, Martin has been instrumental in Team England's Adoption of the NSPCC as their official charity in 2001.
Whenever possible Martin has raised the NSPCC profile in the public domain, none more so than the World Cup Victory Parade where the team were photographed by the world's media wearing the FULL STOP badges : on the buses, with The Queen at Buckingham Palace and with Prime Minister Tony Blair at Number 10 in 2003.

When Matt Dawson celebrated his testimonial year in 2004, he chose the NSPCC as a beneficiary. Ex-British Lions, England & Wasps scrum-half, Matt Dawson has supported the NSPCC since the Team England adopted the NSPCC as their official charity in 2001 and pledged to raise £250,000. Passionately outspoken about ending child cruelty, Matt played a key role in driving the partnership forward.
His commitment to the NSPCC was particularly evident during his testimonial year. At each and every fundraising event Matt consistently reminded his peers and guests of the importance of the NSPCC and our work.
Matt Dawson is also a member of the NSPCC’s Hall of Fame. Read more here
Ex-England, Wasps and British Lions player Simon Shaw chose the NSPCC as one of his two benefiting charities from his testimonial year beginning in September 2006. We were delighted that Simon Shaw chose to support our work. His first testimonial dinner took place in October 2006 with many celebrity names from the world of entertainment and sport present.
The money raised during this year will help thousands of children who desperately need our help.
HealeyEx-England, Leicester Tigers and British Lions player Austin Healey is also celebrating his testimonial year and the NSPCC is one of the benefiting charities. Austin Healey was also an instrumental part of Team England’s adoption of the NSPCC and took part in a calendar sold in aid of the charity in 2001.
