Community Appeals is the NSPCC's largest fundraising department. We help people raise money in their communities so that together we can make a real difference to children.
The work of our fundraising volunteers is incredibly important for children. Voluntary donations provide 85 per cent of the money we need to maintain our services, protect children from abuse and end child cruelty. We cannot do this on our own.
The NSPCC has nine fundraising areas throughout England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands. We have 200 branches (groups of volunteer fundraisers). The branches are supported by over 2000 smaller groups of volunteers who work with NSPCC staff to fundraise and raise awareness of child abuse within communities - engaging local businesses, schools, organisations and people.
We encourage as many people as possible to get involved and organise activities such as individual sponsored runs, street collections, fashion shows and sports competitions.
There are more than 15,000 volunteers throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands who give valuable time and commitment to support the work of the NSPCC.
If you want to volunteer for the NSPCC you can visit our website at www.nspcc.org.uk and click on the fundraising and volunteering section to find out what's happening in your area.
Many of our volunteers tell us how good it is to support the NSPCC. They feel proud that the work they do in their community is helping to end children's suffering. The NSPCC values the support of its volunteers and makes sure they are fully supported in the vital role they play.
Our fundraising volunteers organise a huge range of activities and events, ranging from coffee mornings to large dinners and balls. As well as raising money, our volunteers act as our ambassadors in the community - raising awareness of the cruelty facing children today and telling people how they can help.
Approximately £13 million a year is raised through people fundraising in their communities.
The NSPCC runs 180 projects across the country helping abused children piece their lives together again and preventing cruelty from happening in the first place. We also lobby and campaign in parliament, research and provide public education on child abuse. These activities are made possible by the fundraising we do and the support of communities across the country.
