Dame Mary Marsh, NSPCC Director and Chief Executive, to leave the Society

Press Releases

2 June 2008

Dame Mary Marsh, Director and Chief Executive of the NSPCC, will be leaving the organisation in the autumn after eight years distinguished service. The Society is enormously grateful to Mary for the very significant contribution she has made to the NSPCC's purpose - to end cruelty to children FULL STOP - and for the depth of her personal commitment to children and young people.

Dame Mary will become the founding Director of the Clore Social Leadership Programme, which will identify and develop aspiring leaders of the third sector.

The NSPCC Chairman of Trustees, Sir Christopher Kelly, will begin immediately the process of recruiting Mary's successor.

Sir Christopher said: "We will say goodbye to Mary with great regret at losing such a valued colleague and champion for children." She has achieved an enormous amount during her eight years at the NSPCC and has left the Society in a very strong position to face future challenges. We wish her all the very best in her new role."

Dame Mary said: "It has been a great privilege to be given the responsibility to lead an organisation in which everyone, both staff and volunteers, are so committed to creating a society which does not tolerate the abuse of children.  I am looking forward now to new challenges later this year.  But I will always remain a committed supporter of the NSPCC as it continues its FULL STOP campaign to end cruelty to children."
