The NSPCC welcomes the UK Government’s one billion pound investment to lift 250,000 UK children out of poverty announced today, Wednesday 12 March.
NSPCC director and chief executive Mary Marsh said: “The NSPCC is pleased the Government has its eyes on their target to end child poverty by 2010. This is a significant commitment in such a tight spending round.
“The pressures of living in poverty causes stress which can exacerbate the health problems associated with poor diet, inadequate heating and bad housing. Such pressures also increase the likelihood of family tension and breakdown. The NSPCC, in partnership with the Campaign to End Child Poverty, will continue to maintain the pressure on Government to make child poverty a thing of the past.”
