Visit NSPCC inform - the UK's only free, online, specialised child protection resource for researchers, policy-makers, trainers and other professionals working to safeguard children.
The NSPCC Child Protection Research Department carries out national research into child protection and child welfare, including the causes, effects and prevention of abuse, providing information on child abuse statistics in the UK. Our aim is to increase professional and public understanding of the issues involved and to improve the knowledge base that underlies policy and services for children and families.
We place particular importance on listening to the views and experience of children and young people and those who care for them.
Our research results influence child protection policy and practice both within and outside the NSPCC. They are communicated to practitioners, policy makers and government through publications, professional conferences and the media. The general public learn about the key findings through our public education work.
An important example of our child abuse statistics and research work is Child Maltreatment in the United Kingdom, based on the childhood experiences of 2,869 young adults. Published in 2000, it is the most comprehensive survey ever conducted in this country. The findings have implications for everyone working to end child cruelty.
