The Safe Place Appeal

The centre has been funded by the Safe Place Appeal – a campaign to raise £17 million to build the new building and provide running costs for NSPCC services in Merseyside for ten years.

The campaign was launched in 2004 by Kylie at the glittering Matalan Ball, hosted by John Hargreaves, who kickstarted the campaign with a £6 million donation.

John Hargreaves was born and raised 200 metres from the new centre.  He said:  “This centre helps bring hope to vulnerable children and will let them and their families know that people do care enough to give back.  The work to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children in Liverpool can now begin in earnest after such a lot of planning and preparation.”

Steve Morton, divisional fundraising manager North West, said: “The local community have really taken the Safe Place Appeal to their hearts.  They have supported it with dinners, balls, raffles, pub quizzes, school fundraising and more.  Would-be volunteers for Liverpool’s first ChildLine base have flocked to information meetings.  Local businesses also continue to offer their support.”

Although the building is now complete significant running costs for the services still need to be raised for the NSPCC’s crucial work in Merseyside to continue.  To fundraise or donate to the Safe Place Appeal, ring 0800 107 3790 or donate online .
