Alan Shearer helps raise vital funds

Last night's 'An Evening With Alan Shearer' event held in support of our fight for every childhood

Alan Shearer Yesterday evening, football legend Alan Shearer played host to 25 guests at classy London restaurant, Sexy Fish. The event was a chance for long standing supporter, Alan Shearer, to host a direct fundraiser in his name to help us to keep more children safe.

The intimate event gave fans the opportunity to ask about Alan's successful football career, in which he captained England 34 times and scored 260 Premier League goals.

Making a difference

The evening was a great success and thanks to Alan and all in attendance, the event raised over £27,000.

A big part of this fundraising effort came from the silent auction, which included a meet and greet with Alan at the filming of Match of the Day later in the year.

"I’m very fortunate to have had a great career and family life and knowing there are many children who do not experience the supported and happy childhood they deserve has always been my motivation in supporting the NSPCC. I am committed to continue to do what I can to improve the lives of children and prevent terrible things happening to them. It was my pleasure to host this fantastic evening and I am extremely grateful to all guests for their help in raising valuable funds to support the NSPCC and Childline in its work."

NSPCC CEO Peter Wanless with Alan Shearer

Peter Wanless, NSPCC CEO said:

"Alan hosted a wonderful evening enjoyed by all in attendance. He was welcoming, engaging and inspiring throughout and his commitment in helping the NSPCC and Childline to keep more children safe, supporting the fight for every childhood, is as clear today as it was in the 1990’s when he first began supporting our work as an ambassador."

"Supporters like Alan are a great asset to our work and help inspire others to ensure we are all doing our utmost to protect this generation of children. Through hosting the evening Alan has inspired others to support our work and raised a fantastic amount of money to ensure our services are there when young people need them. It was an absolute pleasure to meet Alan in person and we look forward to many further years working together for children."
