Anna Williamson backs Berkshire ChildLine Schools Service Appeal

The TV presenter speaks about why she supports our work with local schools

Anna Williamson TV presenter, with ChildLine BuddyTV presenter and ChildLine supporter, Anna Williamson, took time out from her recent run as Cinderella at Reading's Hexagon Theatre to speak about her support for the charity - in particular our ChildLine service.

"I have been a volunteer for the NSPCC's ChildLine service for three years now and it's a charity that's very close to my heart and a big part of my life. My support includes volunteering as a ChildLine counsellor, which involves taking phone calls and online contacts from young people who need someone to talk to.

"I am also trained to deliver the ChildLine Schools Service, which I'm very excited about. It's a shocking fact that at least two children in every primary school classroom will have suffered some form of abuse, but most won't tell anyone about it for several years."

"It costs £12 to deliver the Service to one child, and ChildLine desperately needs people across Berkshire to back its fundraising appeal so that a generation of local children can be protected."

"Personally I think that the Schools Service should be mandatory. It’s all about letting children know that they’re not alone, and whilst we do touch on some sensitive topics it’s all done in a very safe and age appropriate way. Feedback from schools that have received the Service has been incredibly positive.

"I would really urge local people to get behind the Berkshire ChildLine Schools Service Appeal as I believe that as adults we all have a responsibility to protect children. Most children have safe, happy lives but some don't and all children should have the knowledge to know where to get help if they need it.
