Newcastle ChildLine Schools Service reaches 100% of schools in the area

Alan Shearer congratulates our Schools Service team in Newcastle for their efforts in protecting a generation of children from child abuse

Footballing legend Alan Shearer has sent his congratulations to the ChildLine Schools Service for protecting a generation of children in Newcastle. The service's visit to Knop Law Primary School in Westerhope means they have now reached 100 per cent of mainstream schools in the area.

Shearer sent his congratulations via a video message which was played to the Year 5 and 6 children who were taking part in the ChildLine Schools Service assembly.

In his video message, Alan said:
"Congratulations to the ChildLine Schools Service on achieving 100 per cent of visiting mainstream schools in Newcastle. Wow, what an achievement! Well done and have a great day."

Alan, who is a patron of the NSPCC, has backed the campaign since it began in the city back in 2012 and went back to school himself in order to see it in action. Since then he has encouraged other primary schools in the city to get on board and welcome the service, so that pupils are aware of what sexual abuse is and how to protect themselves against it.

The service has visited 88 schools - 21 of those twice - and talked to over 7,830 local children since the service began in 2012. It has now been delivered to children in every mainstream primary, middle and academy school in Newcastle.
