The Tipping Challenge sees sports stars line up to support our work

Boxer Ricky Hatton and other British sports stars will take part in this year's Tipping Challenge to help raise more than £50,000 to support our work

Race horsesSome of the biggest names in British sport have joined forces with William Hill for The Tipping Challenge – the horse racing tipster tournament in aid of the NSPCC. Their aim is to raise over £50,000 to help fund our work by picking winners at the much-anticipated Cheltenham Festival.

Darts powerhouse Phil 'The Power' Taylor will go head-to-head with fellow darts player Gary Anderson, former footballers Robbie Savage and Steve McManaman. Also taking part are boxers Carl Froch and Ricky 'The Hitman' Hatton (MBE), Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew, The Sun's racing correspondent Claude Duval, Sky Sports reporter Geoff Shreeves, and ninteteen-time champion jockey AP McCoy.

The challenge will run across the 4 days of the Cheltenham Festival (10-13 March) and each participant will be given a stake of £1,000 per day courtesy of William Hill to bet on one horse. On the final day – Gold Cup Day – they will bet with £2,000 instead of £1,000. Each will receive tips from racing experts to help them raise as much money as possible and secure the coveted winner's trophy.William Hill Tipping ChallengeOver the past 11 years, The Tipping Challenge has raised £600,000 for the NSPCC and previous winners have included two-time and reigning champion Alan Pardew, David O'Leary and Glenn Roeder.

Thanks to the generosity of William Hill, should the sports stars fail to pick the winning horses, we are still guaranteed to receive £50,000. But it is hoped that they will have luck on their side, placing winning bets and raising a substantial sum to help us continue our fight for every childhood.

Champion boxer Carl Froch said:
"I'm delighted to be taking part in this year's Tipping Challenge at the world-famous Cheltenham Festival. I hope that Lady Luck will shine down on me and that I'll pick the winners to raise much-needed funds for the NSPCC – a charity I'm proud to support."

Over the coming days, we'll be updating this story to include details of bets placed and winnings, before announcing this year's champion, so make sure you check back to see how your favourite is getting on.

The money raised will help children rebuild their lives, and help us find ways to prevent abuse from ruining any more. Abuse changes childhoods, but together, so can we.
