- In 2012/13, almost 51,000 people contacted the NSPCC, a 15% increase on the previous year
- A number of high profile child abuse cases, in particular the Savile case, prompted more people to contact the NSPCC with their concerns
- Despite a large increase in the percentage of calls about sexual abuse, the most common concern remains child neglect
- 52% of contacts to the NSPCC’s helpline resulted in a referral to children’s services and/or the police
- 48% of people waited more than a month before contacting the NSPCC, compared with 54% the previous year
