Safeguarding children: key skills for ambulance, fire and rescue services A training pack for trainers working with paramedics or firefighters
Firefighters and paramedics serve an important role in protecting our community and are often uniquely placed to help safeguard children from abuse and neglect. During home visits and contact with families they gain an insight into children's everyday lives.
It is therefore vital that they are given high quality training on how to recognise and respond effectively to signs of child abuse and neglect.
This unique safeguarding training resource is tailored to those working in the ambulance and fire and rescue service and focuses on situations relevant to their day to day work.
This resource is comprised of a DVD and CD-Rom with:
- dramatised film scenarios showing situations that paramedics and firefighters will come across in their day to day work, with advice from NSPCC expert trainers on recognising and responding to signs of child abuse and neglect
- interviews with firefighters and paramedics talking about their unique opportunity to spot and respond to signs of child abuse and neglect
- PDF hand outs for trainers on various aspects of child protection and safeguarding, including the definitions and signs of specific types of abuse
- guidance for trainers on how to get the most out of the DVD for training purposes.
