Face to Face Improving the wellbeing of children in care

Children and young people in care told us that they wanted a confidential service that they could access quickly, that was face-to-face and on their terms. So, we developed Face to Face.
Children and young people who received Face to Face support experienced improved well-being.
Face to Face helps children in care work on any problem they’re facing at home, at school, with friends, or with personal issues. It enables them to set their own goal for the future, and they decide on the timing and location of the sessions.
It aims to help young people improve their confidence, skills and strengths so they’re better prepared to cope with problems now and in the future.
How it worked
We worked with young people for up to 8 sessions. We helped them:
- talk about what they want to change in their life
- work out what needs to happen to make things better.
The young person had control over the support they wanted - including where and when the sessions were held.
They could talk about a wide variety of problems, such as:
- family issues
- coping with feelings like anger, sadness, rejection or low self-confidence
- peer pressure, bullying or problems with friends.
