Why should I take part?

For children, Christmas should be the most magical time of the year. But for thousands of children all over the country, Christmas can mean being trapped at home with their abusers.

  • Last Christmas, Childline delivered more than 1,000 high-risk counselling sessions.
  • 64% of high-risk calls and web chats to Childline at Christmas come in after dark.
  • Childline, an NSPCC service, is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for children who have nowhere else to turn.

By joining our Walk for Children event and raising vital funds, you can help us answer more life-changing calls to Childline. Together, we can give children facing abuse a lifeline this Christmas.

"All children should be happy at Christmas"

“We completed our walk in Llandudno – getting to see the seals and sheep on our coastal route!

"We chose to take part as Elijah wanted to help other children who needed it, he said that all children should be happy at Christmas as it’s a happy time.”

Your questions answered

Walk for Children is our Christmas 5k walk event. It’s a chance to get together with friends, family or furry friends, plan your own 5k route and raise money to help keep children safe this Christmas.

Walk for Children takes place in December 2024, on the longest night of the year. You can take part any time of day we know the evening won't work for everyone!

And if that date doesn’t work for you, you can choose another day to walk instead.

Walk for Children takes place anywhere you like – you can pick the location and distance that works for you. So, wrap up warm, wear your best festive outfit and walk your own 5k route in December 2024.

On the same night as Walk for Children, iconic landmarks across the UK will turn green in aid of the NSPCC.

You can take part in Walk for Children in any way that feels best for you. Whether you're on foot, using a mobility aid or completing your route in another way that works for you – you can still join us in December 2024.

Children are very welcome to take part. But due to the age restrictions on our forms, we'll need a parent or guardian to register on their behalf.

If you're taking part as a family and raising money together, we’ll only need one person to sign up as the lead.

Yes, you're very welcome to take part in Walk for Children as a group.

If you plan to raise money using your own individual fundraising pages, we'd recommend signing up individually. You can then ask us to link them together with your group by emailing [email protected]

If you're raising money together on one fundraising page, we’d recommend one person signing up on behalf of your group.

Yes you can! When you sign up, we'll send you a t-shirt to wear on your walk, but if you need more t-shirts for others joining you (including children), you can request these after you've signed up.

Keep an eye out for a link to do this in your confirmation email, or email us and we can help!

Yes, for the first time ever we have a selection of exclusive Walk for Children merchandise available for you to purchase to wear during your walk, or keep as a souvenir afterwards!

We have t-shirts, hoodies, and tote bags in a range of colours and sizes available. All products are made to order from organic cotton and printed in the UK in a renewable energy powered factory.

We're asking participants to try to raise £100 for Walk for Children. But we'll be grateful for any amount you can raise.

Your fundraising will go towards our vital work, ensuring we can be here for children when they need us most.

Once you’ve signed up, we’ll send you regular emails with resources, tips and advice to help you with your fundraising and planning your walk.

You’ll also get access to our Walk for Children Facebook group where you can keep up to date with any key event information and meet other people taking part.

Our Walk for Children team will also be on hand throughout to help you with any questions or help you might need. You can get in touch with them by emailing [email protected]

Your fundraising could go towards Childline, or it could help fund NSPCC therapeutic services and the NSPCC Helpline. Wherever your donation is needed most, that's where it will go.
