Bullying is key reason for under 11s to contact ChildLine

ChildLine has partnered with Cartoon Network to help children take action against bullying, as National Anti Bullying Week 2014 launches

As part of the campaign, British rapper Tinie Tempah is calling on children and young people across the UK to stand up against bullying, and teaming up with Cartoon Network to launch 'CN BUDDY NETWORK: BE A BUDDY NOT A BULLY'.

The new campaign kicks off National Anti-Bullying Week and aims to raise awareness and empower kids to take action against bullying.

Tinie Tempah appears in an on-air campaign on Cartoon Network which also includes an original series of animated shorts addressing the viewpoints of the child who bullies, the bullied and the observer. Kids affected by bullying – whether directly or indirectly – can immediately access advice, relevant tips and support tools online.

Bullying is a top worry for children under 11

  • Over 40,000 children and young people across the UK have called ChildLine about bullying in 2014
  • 350,000 online visits from children looking for information on bullying in the past year
  • 1 in 4 contacts from children aged 11 and under was about bullying
  • Nearly 1,000 children called over concerns about a friend or someone they know being bullied.

Tinie Tempah said:

"This is a very real issue that affects kids of all ages across the UK every single day. I saw it happening when I was at school and by being there for the kid who was being picked on, I helped him see that he wasn't alone. Even if I only helped in some small way, I'm glad I did it.

"It's so important that kids understand that bullying is never acceptable and that it's okay to open up and talk about their experiences – whether they're being bullied or see someone being bullied. We all have it in us to help, simply by being friendly, kind and considerate to others."

It is so important that we are able to let young people know that bullying is wrong and that they can get help, no matter what they're going through and that's why I'm so proud to be supporting this great initiative."
