Childhood Day and RunNPAT Matt Bushell's story

Matt BushellMatt Bushell - a teacher from Lings Primary School in Northamptonshire - recently organised and completed a 'Childhood Day and RunPAT' event for his local primary schools, who are members of the Northampton Primary Academy Trust (NPAT).

"The idea is that we all have a Childhood day where the children dress up as something symbolising a happy time in their lives...The run brings the schools together and it's also just a chance to say thank you.

"To start with, I visited each of the NPAT schools to introduce the work of the NSPCC and its Childline Service...Childhood Day saw children and staff dress up in a way that represents a happy part or memory from their childhood, whilst RunNPAT saw myself and some of my colleagues run the 18 miles between the 8 campuses of our 6 schools."

"Being a child should be the best time of their life, but it's a difficult time for some. Too many children don't have that support around them."

"The children who dressed up were certainly enthusiastic and a wide range of costumes were on show from princesses to superheroes.

"As we arrived at each subsequent school, we were met with enthusiastic welcomes by staff and children. Each school also had two members of staff who joined the run, whilst one school also provided some of their year 5 children to run with us for one of the legs. It was a fantastic day and the event was really well supported."

Matt's event day raised an amazing £1,920 meaning he has almost reached his sponsorship target for the Virgin Money London Marathon 2016, where he is running as part of the NSPCC Team.
