The X Factor ChildLine Ball

£640,000 raised for ChildLine

On Thursday 20 October, the X Factor ChildLine Ball was held at the Savoy hotel in London, sponsored by first direct.

The evening, hosted by Dermot O’Leary, was a great success and raised over £640,000. There were performances by X Factor stars Mary Byrne and Rebecca Ferguson while Peter Dickson, the voice of X Factor, entertained guests.

Esther Rantzen said: “It was a fantastic evening, a really thrilling way for ChildLine to celebrate this very important year, its 25th. Dermot O’Leary was his usual charming self. Mary Byrne and Rebecca Ferguson were wonderful as they always are. And we raised a staggering amount of money, thanks to our live auctioneer Jonny Gould, and Peter Dickson. This means we can answer all the desperate children who ring ChildLine and contact us online, giving them hope, advice, and a lifeline.

"The ball was on the publication date of my book Running Out Of Tears; telling the story of young adults who rang ChildLine when they were children, and how those phone calls transformed their lives. So this is a landmark year in ChildLine's life and in mine."

Dermot O'Leary said: "It was a top night and I am delighted we raised so much for ChildLine. Their counsellors do amazing work with children who may have no one to turn to for help."

Simon Cowell said: "ChildLine is a fantastic cause and I genuinely believe that every child needs help and support. I'm delighted The X Factor was part of this event."

Dan Gopal, Chairman of the ChildLine Ball Committee, said: “This year’s ball was quite simply the biggest and best event we have organised so far, and to raise over £640,000 for ChildLine is unbelievable."
