You can help now.

Let’s make sure Report Remove is there for young people who need it.

When a child or young person discovers that private photos or videos of them have been shared publicly online, they can feel completely out of control. Sick with worry. Betrayed, or ashamed. So many of them simply don’t know what to do.

That's why NSPCC and the Internet Watch Foundation have created Report Remove. It's a vital online tool to help children and young people confidentially get nude content of themselves removed from the internet. Helping them power take back in a terrifying and devastating situation.

Why Report Remove exists

Between January and June of this year, 338 reports have been made to Report Remove and 483 nude images and videos of young people have been removed from public online spaces. That’s already a significant increase from last year, which saw double the number of reports made in 2021. This terrible form of abuse seems to be increasing year on year.

During this time the webpage received over 25,000 unique page views, suggesting that there are many more children and young people who desperately need this service.

What’s more, last year Childline delivered 19% more counselling sessions on the subject to distressed young people than they did in 2021.

Every child’s situation is different, and it’s important that they know they’re never being judged or blamed for creating this content. The circumstances behind a young person sharing images with someone can vary – some may have sent it privately to someone they trust, while others may have been coerced or groomed into sending images and videos of themselves.

Whatever reason a young person has for sending images or videos to someone, having them then shared publicly online without consent is a shocking and traumatising experience, that can destroy their mental health and self-esteem.

That’s why we must always be there to remove these private images and videos from the public internet as soon as possible. Before they cause more devastation, fear and distress for the young people in them.

Thank you for sharing Report Remove with me. I sent a sexual video over messenger then they started blackmailing me saying they were going to release it. I couldn’t cope if other people saw it. I spoke to my parents, and they said I should block them, make a CEOP report and speak to Childline. We didn’t know what to do if they did really post it so knowing about Report Remove is really helpful.

How Report Remove works

Report Remove puts children and their needs first. It’s designed to be easy for young people to use, and keeps them thoroughly informed and supported throughout.

Children are asked to provide ID, to help prove that they’re underage and content is illegal. However, this is not essential.

Although this also isn’t essential, creating a Childline account helps to support and safeguard children.

IWF let Childline know if they are able to remove the image or video within a day. Childline then relay this to the young person, while offering extra support. Nobody at Childline ever sees the content.
