What is the Chilhood Day Mile?

Childhood Day is our national day of action to help protect children. Whether you walk, run, skip, or dance your mile, it’s all about getting involved and making a difference. You can take part solo, with friends, family, colleagues—or even your furry companions. The Childhood Day Mile is for everyone.

On the first Friday in June, we’re asking people to move a mile and raise money for children.

Move your mile, your way

How you complete your mile is totally up to you!

  • Take a family stroll
  • Team up with a friend for a three-legged mile
  • Organise a workplace relay
  • Or get creative with a non-physical challenge!

2024 participant Katie took part in the Childhood Day Mile by swimming a mile in her local swimming pool.

Katie said “I moved my mile before work by heading to my gym - this challenge was great because I could work it into my daily routine. I swam for about 45 minutes and managed to reach just over a mile and a half! I mainly fundraised through family and friends. It felt really special to take part on Childhood Day, knowing that I'd played my small part whilst people across the country were all supporting the same cause and having fun to help protect children."

No! Here are some ideas for less physical ways to complete your mile...

  • Read a mile of books – Get your friends or colleagues together and complete a read-a-thon for Childhood Day! Throughout June, see if you can read a mile – the equivalent of 8,169 pages.
  • Game a mile – Choose your favourite video game and complete a mile online. Move your sim a mile round the block or race Mario until you’ve achieved the distance.
  • 22 minutes - It takes 22 minutes for the average person to walk a mile, instead of walking use this time to do your favourite hobby or take on a new challenge like learning a language.

If you have a group of people wanting to take part nominate one person to register on behalf of the group, this person will then receive the key information to disperse to everyone else.

The nominee will also have a fundraising page has been set up on Enthuse that the whole group can use to fundraise.

If you have any questions, please email [email protected]

We're asking participants to raise £80 for their Childhood Day Mile. But any amount you raise will help us in our fight to prevent child abuse.

As part of your registration, your own personal fundraising page will be set up for you on Enthuse. You can use it to collect donations for your mile.

Participants Barnaby and Theo took part in the Childhood Day Mile with Barnaby swimming 64 lengths and Theo cycling to complete their mile. Together, they raised an amazing £350.
