What is Gift Aid?

Help us answer more Childline calls, at no extra cost to you

By choosing to Gift Aid every gift you make to NSPCC, you could help us answer even more Childline calls, at no extra cost to yourself.

Last year, we claimed more than £8.1 million through Gift Aid. That’s enough to keep the majority of our Childline bases open for one year.

Frequently asked questions about Gift Aid

Donating through Gift Aid means charities such as NSPCC can claim an extra 25p for every £1 you give – at no extra cost to you.

You can add Gift Aid to donations if you’re a UK taxpayer. Your donations will qualify as long as they’re not more than four times what you’ve paid in tax in that tax year (6 April to 5 April). The tax could have been paid on income or capital gains.

When a UK taxpayer gives a gift of money to a charity, tax has already been paid on that money. Because charitable donations are exempt from tax, charities can claim this money back from HMRC and add it to your donation.

We can’t reclaim tax at the higher rate, but you can. Just declare your yearly donations on your tax return, and you’ll get a rebate for the difference.

No, all we need is your completed Gift Aid declaration, and we’ll claim the eligible Gift Aid. There’s no extra paperwork for you, now or in the future.

No, because thanks to Gift Aid, we can reclaim the tax from all of your donations until you say otherwise.

Thank you for supporting the NSPCC.

If you have any other questions, or your tax circumstances change, just get in touch with our Supporter Care team on 020 7825 2505 or email [email protected].
