Why should I take part?

Children have so many questions at Christmas – for parents, teachers, Santa, and even Childline.

  • This Christmas, a child will contact Childline every 45 seconds on average.
  • Over 1,900 children contacted Childline about mental health last Christmas.
  • Childline is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, staffed by volunteer counsellors ready to answer calls day or night this Christmas.

By joining Walk for Children, you'll raise vital funds which could make a difference to children in Leeds and beyond. Your fundraising could help Childline be there for every child – whenever they need us. With your support, Childline can be ready for every urgent question this Christmas.

Your questions answered

Walk for Children is the NSPCC's Christmas walk event, and this year we're really excited to be bringing the event to Leeds. Walk for Children Leeds will be taking place on Sunday 8 December at Roundhay Park.

Walk for Children Leeds takes place on Sunday 8 December 2024.

Walk for Children Leeds takes place at Roundhay Park, Mansion Lane, Leeds LS8 2HH.

It costs £10 per adult to take part in Walk for Children Leeds. Under 18s can take part for free, but must be registered alongside an adult.

We’ll have two routes for you to choose from on the day  a 5k route, or a shorter and fully accessible 3k route. When you arrive to sign in and collect your bib numbers on the day, you can choose which route you’d prefer to take on.

Yes! We’ll have lots of family-friendly activities at the event for children to get involved in. It’s free for under 18s to take part, but they won’t be able register for the event themselves and must be added by an adult who is over 18.

If you decide to bring children with you, you’ll need to be responsible for them at all times during the event.

Yes you can. When registering, you can add additional adults and children to your booking once you’ve filled out your details.

If you have a large group, we’d recommend signing up multiple smaller groups instead.

We’ll set you up one fundraising page per booking, so if you’re planning on fundraising separately and would like separate pages, please register separately.

Yes, we have a shorter and fully accessible 3k route you can take part in. This route is suitable for buggy and wheelchair users, as well as those who would prefer to complete a shorter distance.

The event will be open from 10am on 8 December. We’d recommend arriving about an hour before your start time, to give you enough time to collect your bib numbers and enjoy our event village before you start your walk. The walk will start between 11-11.30am. You’ll be given your exact start time when you sign up, so please check this in your emails.

We’ll have a selection of refreshments available at the event, and toilet facilities (including an accessible toilet). There’ll also be lots of fun and festive activities for all ages to get involved in on the day, including festive crafts, face painting and the opportunity to meet Santa!

If you are close enough and are able to, we would recommend walking or getting public transport to the event. The number 2 and 12 buses from Leeds City Centre will take you directly to the park.

There’s no designated parking for the event, but you can park in any of the car parks at Roundhay Park or along Mansion Lane. The closest car parks to the event village are: Mansion Car Park (3 minute walk), Lakeside Car Park (5 min walk) and Roundhay Main Car Park (10 min walk).

We’re asking participants to try and raise £100 for Walk for Children, but we are grateful for any amount you can raise. If you’re taking part in a group, the sponsorship target is £100 per group, not per individual

Yes! There is a selection of exclusive Walk for Children merchandise available for you to buy to wear during your walk, and/or to keep as a souvenir afterwards.

We have T-shirts, hoodies, and tote bags in a range of colours and sizes. All products are made to order from organic cotton and printed in the UK in a renewable energy powered factory.

Once you’ve signed up, we’ll send you regular emails with all the information you need ahead of joining us at Roundhay Park, along with resources, tips and advice to help you with your fundraising.

Our Walk for Children team will also be on hand throughout to help you with any questions or help you might need. You can get in touch with them by emailing [email protected].

We also have a Facebook event you can join to stay up to date with important event information.

Your fundraising could go towards Childline, or it could help fund NSPCC therapeutic services and the NSPCC Helpline. Wherever your donation is needed most, that's where it will go.
